Public Seed Ball Share at Nebula

These are images from my seed ball making party on September 24, 2011 at my ArtPrize project Nebula: A Growing Installation. The more seed balls the public takes, the bigger the installation gets.

Children love making seed balls! They made some to take home and also left some at Nebula to share with others. Thanks for participating everyone! :)

Spread-Seeds-Logo2

spread seeds stickers!

I designed these stickers to be Kickstarter pledge rewards and also to give away at my seed ball making parties at ArtPrize.

I’ve been playing around with Geotype (old school graphic design tool, they are little wax letters you can burnish onto paper, thanks Tom!), and I came up with this Spread Seeds text:

In my sketches I had some ink drawings of plants and spouts:

Combined they created the finished sticker. :)

90% Dumpster-Dived Pumpkin Poppy Blueberry Lime bars

These bars turned out very moist and delicious, not to mention resourceful!

How it was done:
Mix the dry together in a bowl:
1 1/2 cup of flour
Dash of cinnamon and nutmeg
Handful of poppy seeds
1/2 t of baking soda
Dash of sea salt
Dash of vanilla bean powder

Then the wet in another dish:
1 container of Arrowhead Mill’s Pour n Bake Pumpkin Pie Filling
1 1/2 t molasses
1/3 cup oil
Small lime, juiced
1 egg

Blueberries for pattern

Topping: 1/8 cup brown sugar
1 T honey
Enough water to make saucy

Mix dry into wet, pour into a greased baking dish, and press blueberries into top. Bake for 25 minutes at 350 degrees.
You can choose to add sugar to the batter (with the wet ingredients), the bars came out less sweet than I predicted (pour n bake pumpkin had added sugar, so I didn’t add sugar other than a bit of molasses). That’s when the brown sugar honey sauce comes in! Pour sauce over bars, wait a bit for the whole mess to cool. The blueberries can be hot juice bombs!
Enjoy!

Dawn of the Bed 2011!

Dawn of the Bed is a garden building event created by Growing Gardens. Raised beds were build by teams all across Portland, OR. It was a great day, tons of community activity, happy children, and fun. Everyone was working hard, rain and shine, to equip Shaver Elementary with some very nice raised beds. I was the Crew Leader for the team that built a handicap accessible bed. Go team! You guys are awesome. :)
